Rifle Range Information
Range Fee Changes From 1st March 2023
Effective from 1 March 2023 (the start of the NZDA membership year) our various range fees will be increasing. The new firearms legislation has contributed to our operating costs, plus we have ongoing maintenance and fixed costs such as insurance, power and internet to recover and lease fees to the council.
We are also increasing the public day fees to give more incentive to join NZDA so we can represent more of these occasional shooters that make up the silent majority of licenced firearm owners.
The facilities on offer at our 300m TECT Park Range are fantastic and are a great asset to our club and region but it does cost a lot to have these facilities available and range fees need to cover the costs or the range is not financially viable.
The New Fees are:
- Annual range ticket – $100
- Range access tag – $30 (one-off cost on application)
- Range Open Day non NZDA member fee – $50
- Range Open Day NZDA member (any branch) without range ticket – $25
Range Development
NZDA-BOP Branch has been working with Western Bay of Plenty District Council (WBOPDC) since 1998 to find suitable land for shooting ranges for the BOP shooting community.
In 2004 WBOPDC purchased 1700 Ha of pine forest in Pyes Pa Road to develop a “Noisy Sports” park that would cater for all shooting disciplines. This land is now know as the TECT All Terrain Park.
We signed a lease with WBOPDC in August 2010 covering a number of exclusive use area for the development of 200m, 300m, 450m and 900m rifle ranges, and started construction on the 300m centrefire range in December 2010 and it opened in December 2011.
The range is available 7am-10pm 7 days a week for use by NZDA BOP Branch club members who have purchased an annual range ticket. We also run Range Open Days on the last Sunday of every month (9:30am-3:00pm) where the public can pay a day member fee and shoot under supervision of our Nationally Qualified Range Officers. Nationally Qualified Range officers can also supervise private shooting sessions at their discretion (See contact form further down if you want to request a private session).

Our induction process for range ticket holders consists of a multi choice questionnaire, and three (3) practical shoots before members can shoot on our range unsupervised. If you have just joined and purchased an annual range ticket, then you need to download and complete the questionnaire below. You will need to refer to the Range Standing Orders to answer some of these questions, which are provided in the link above.
You can either print out the questionnaire and fill in by hand then scan and email back, or complete it electronically using your pdf viewer then save it and email it back to induction@deerstalkersBOP.org.nz for marking. The questionnaire will then be digitally signed and send it back to you so you can print it out and take it to the range for the practical’s where a Nationally Qualified Range Officer (NRO) will sign you off.
One of the practical inductions must be on a public range day, which are on the last Sunday of each Month.
Your 2nd and 3rd practical can be completed at one of the following regular range events:
- NZDA public range day on last Sunday of each month (you will need to arrive at 9:00am before it opens to the public at 9:30am)
- NZDA/TPRA Club day on 3rd Saturday of each month (you will need to attend safety briefing at 9:00am), unless they are running a championship event. You must reserve a place at these shoots by replying to the club email sent out monthly in advance.
There is also the option of completing your 2nd or 3rd practical by applying for a Private Range Session with an NRO.
Once you have the practical signed off send the hard copy of the questionnaire back to the induction@deerstalkersBOP.org.nz and your range ticket and access tag will be posted out to you.
