Our 2024 HUNTS course is scheduled to start Monday 29th July 2024.

The HUNTS program covers the knowledge and skills to operate safely as a hunter in the New Zealand outdoors and teaches the ethics of fair chase and the principles of managing a sustainable game resource.  The course is designed for new hunters who are aged 16 yrs or over, but younger hunters are welcome with guardian approval. A firearms licence is preferred but not mandatory

The course is delivered over 8 nights of theory and 4 weekends including a 1 on 1 weekend trip with an experienced hunter. The core modules cover the following topics:

• Equipment and food
• Travel and navigation
• River safety
• Game animal species in New Zealand
• Firearms use in a hunting context
• Range shooting and setting up a hunting firearm
• Care for meat and your trophy
• Preparing for when ‘things go wrong’
