This is a river hunt involving paddling canoes down the Mokau River over a 24 hour period, camping on the river bank overnight. We will leave Tauranga approx. 730am on the Saturday and get back approx. 5pm on the Sunday. All participants are responsible for providing their own canoe or kayak – Canadian style canoes are far preferable than a kayak. There are many members in the club who own their own, so you may be able to borrow one from another member.
Due to the nature of this trip with a “put in” up river and “take out” down river. All participants will need to have a vehicle/trailer combination that can transport two vessels. Participants will be paired up so that both vessels are transported to the put in on one vehicle/trailer, after dropping the pick up vehicle/trailer at the take out. Both vessels will then be transported from the take out on one vehicle/trailer, back to the put in to collect the other vehicle/trailer, before returning to Tauranga.
This trip is a great opportunity for novice hunters to practice their stalking, field dressing and fly camping. Club trips like this are a chance to get to know other members and make some lifelong hunting friends.
